Xypex Concentrate and Patch'n Plug were used to repair and protect the three-story underground parking garage at Jaidah Square in Doha, Qatar. The building’s original traditional membrane had failed due to a high ground water table and extreme hydrostatic pressure. Xypex was successfully used to stop the leaks and the developer was very happy with Xypex’s ability to perform in critical situations. The 70,000 m² commercial building completed on time and in 2011 Jaidah Square won Commercial Project of the Year in Qatar.

    Commercial Building (3B+G+7) at Umm Guwalina

    Xypex Concentrate was used as a mud slurry application over the blinding concrete and surrounding wall areas to have an enhanced protection of the concrete as well as a steel reinforcement. The mud slurry application was initiated 4 hours prior to concrete pouring schedule. Concrete with Xypex Admix C-1000 NF was poured in the entire raft as the primary and only waterproofing solution for the project. Enhanced chemical protection and durability of the concrete was the requirement of the client.

    Doha Tower

    Doha The Doha Tower, built in 2011 and designed by Jean Nouvel, is located in West Bay of Donha, Qatar, overlooking the Persian Gulf. The Tower has a height of 232 meters (761 ft) with 46 floors above ground and 3 floors below ground with a total of 110,000 m² gross floor area.

    Xypex Admix C-1000 NF was used to waterproof and protect the foundation raft, retaining walls, floor slab, and water tanks in the tower. Xypex Concentrate was used to coat in–between the pours, construction joints and other wet areas.

    In 2012, the building received the CTBUH Skyscraper Award for the “Best Tall Building Worldwide” and is an iconic part of Doha’s skyline.

    Four Seasons Hotel

    Doha Due to poor concrete practices, severe cracks were discovered in the foundation of the Four Seasons Hotel in Doha. Xypex was selected to protect the concrete and steel from future deterioration. The Xypex Dry-Pac system was applied and followed by a two-coat Xypex Concentrate application to the raft slab. This will enhance the durability and sustainability of the structure.

    Doha The operation theatre room roof in Qatar’s main hospital started leaking after a massive rainfall. Initially, the leaking areas and defective concrete was treated with Concentrate and Patch’n Plug Dry-Pac system and then two coats of Xypex Concentrate were applied to the entire roof deck areas. After the application, a water tightness test was conducted successfully.

    Nakilat Ship Repair Yard Phase 5 - Caisson & Quay Area

    Ras Laffan Royal Haskoning DHV specified Xypex crystalline products to protect deteriorated concrete in the caisson and quay walls. Before initiating the Xypex coating, all defective concrete areas were repaired by the Xypex Concentrate and Patch’n Plug Dry-Pac system. All internal chambers of the caisson went through water tightness tests and were handed over for operation in harsh marine environment.

    Nakilat Ship Repair Yard Phase 5 - Dry Dock and Shipyard

    Ras Laffan Royal Haskoning DHV specified the Xypex coating system to protect the concrete structure and enhance durability from the harsh marine environment. The structure is approximately 20 meters below ground level and under severe hydrostatic pressure as well as exposure to severe chloride attack and high salinity. The two-coat application of Xypex Concentrate was initiated after repairing the defective concrete with the Dry-Pac system.

    New Hamad Port Project at Qatar

    The New Hamad Port project in Qatar is one of the world’s largest ongoing Green Development. The project is located south of Dohan, with a 26.5 square kilometer span and a value of 7.4 billon USD. Xypex was selected by Royal Haskoning DHV and Worley Parsons to provide protection and durability to exposed concrete terminals, deck areas and quay walls. Xypex was used to repair all cracks over 0.2 mm with a Xypex Concentrate and Patch’n Plug solution on the exposed concrete deck areas. For durability and sustainability of the concrete terminal decks on extremely harsh marine environment, Xypex Concentrate was coated throughout the 11 terminal deck areas. Around 90 tons of Xypex Concentrate was used to protect the concrete and enhance durability.

    Ras Abu Fontas A3 Reverse Osmosis Project - IWPP (Potable Water Reservoir)

    Doha Mitsubishi & Toyo Thai Corporation Ltd were awarded this Qatar Reverse Osmosis project with a value of 502 million USD and the first of its kind on a large scale. TTCL & Qatar General Electric & Water Corp. recommended Xypex coating solution as the primary waterproofing system for the entire potable water reservoir. The project has the capacity of delivering 164,000 cubic meters per day of potable water to Doha. Xypex Concentrate was applied as a two-coat application on all internal walls and deck areas of the East and West potable water reservoirs, approximately 32,000 square meters. The 24,000 tie holes and joint areas were protected with Xypex Patch'n Plug and Concentrate Dry-Pac solution. This project has been successfully handed over after several water tightness tests, conducted by Qatar General Electricity and Water Corp.

    Ras Abu Fontas A3 Reverse Osmosis Project - IWPP (Seawater Intake)

    ACCIONA AGUA was awarded EPC of the SEADAF structure from Mitsubishi & TTCL for Ras Abu Fontas A3 project in Qatar. ACCIONA & Fichtner Engineering & Consulting Germany selected Xypex Crystalline Technology to protect the SEADAF structure from high salinity and sea water bound chemical attacks. Xypex Concentrate was applied as a two-coat application on the DAF internal walls, base slabs, upper slabs and the periphery wall surface (20,000 m2). Initially defective concrete was treated with Concentrate and Patch’n Plug Dry-Pac system before two coats of Xypex Concentrate was applied. Each vault successfully passed water tightness tests.

    Ras Laffan Xypex Concentrate was used to protect this wastewater tank where the pH<5 and the structure had notable concrete defects. The defects were repaired by a Xypex Concentrate and Patch’n Plug system before two coat Concentrate application.

    Ras Laffan Reservoir

    Ras Laffan The Ras Laffan Reservoir, part of the highly prestigious Ras Laffan C project, will hold 63 million gallons and produce 275,000 m3 of potable water per day by 2011. The Xypex two-coat system of Xypex Concentrate and Modified was used to waterproof and protect 37,999 m2 of potable water tanks. The largest of these tanks will take 1½ years to fill. Xypex products were also used on the cooling tower of 11,300 m2 and the sewage treatment plant of 377 m2.

    Ras Laffan C is one of the most prestigious projects in the Middle East and, by 2011, will be the largest integrated water and power plant in the country, providing 30% of Qatar’s electricity and 20% of its potable water. It will also help to provide electricity to other Gulf States through a regional grid.

    Xypex Admix C-1000 NF was chosen for concrete durability as the building’s design life was more than 50 years old and the groundwater level was at -1 meters. Six tons of Xypex Admix C-1000 NF was used as a second line of protection and an intermediate coating of Xypex Concentrate was applied throughout all joint areas.

    Xypex Admix C-1000 NF was mixed in the concrete for waterproofing and durability of the structure as the prime protection.     WOQOD Petrol and Service Station

    The use of Xypex Admix as a standalone waterproofing product has proved to be a turning point in the design and construction of WOQOD petrol stations. With tight schedules, the use of Xypex Admix saves nearly 3 weeks of critical project time. Additionally, the cost of dewatering was significantly reduced since Xypex waterproofs concrete during the concrete hydration phase itself. Xypex-treated concrete has also demonstrated its ability to self-heal hairline static cracks even under high hydrostatic conditions. By replacing the conventional waterproofing system with Xypex, WOQOD is able to meet its exacting environmental and operational standards saving both time and expense in the process.

The leakage occurred due to failure of the original membrane waterproofing system.
