    Raffles American School

Nusajaya, Johor Bahru, Johor Sustainability lies within the cultural heart of the school, which is evident in the campus design. The building features passive-cooling techniques such as cross-ventilation and the stack effect, in addition to exterior shading devices. This ensures that, although the school spans over a large area (an overall gross floor area of approximately 77,000 square meters) the designers have minimized the school’s carbon footprint.

In 2012, the Raffles American School was recognised during the World Architecture Festival, being awarded in the categories of “Future – Education” and “Future – Mixed Use”. During the construction phase, RNC Integral Concrete Technology (M) Sdn. Bhd., was contracted to carry out various concrete waterproofing works, including for basement slabs and retaining walls, concrete water tanks, ground slabs, internal wet areas, landscape plantings and reinforced concrete flat roofs.

    Setia Spice Convention Centre

Bayan Baru, Penang Dubbed the country’s first subterranean convention centre and located on a 10.1 hectare plot of land on the island of Penang, on the north-west coast of peninsula Malaysia, the Setia Spice Convention Centre is a world class integrated convention centre featuring a number of record-setting facilities. Xypex Admix C-1000 NF, Xypex Concentrate, and Xypex Modified were used to waterproof more than 50,000 m2 of ‘exposed’ concrete structures throughout the entire Setia Spice Convention Centre complex, including the subterranean basement structures, concrete water tanks, internal wet areas, swimming pool, roof gardens and the concrete flat roof were all waterproofed and protected using Xypex products.

Given the environmental circumstances of the location, including a high water table, elevated levels of chlorides, sulphates and carbonating gasses, Xypex waterproofing technology was selected and specified for this project because, unlike other concrete waterproofing systems, Xypex offered permanent and enduring concrete waterproofing and protection, with cost savings accruing from reduced initial construction time as well as future concrete maintenance costs.

Setia SPICE’s sustainable criteria and potential to boost Penang’s economy has earned it The Edge and Malaysia Institute of Architects (PAM) Green Excellence Award. The award is based on a product’s designs, sustainability, implementation, cost efficiency, green buildings standards and contributions to the community. In June of 2019, Setia Spice achieved a World Gold Award in the ‘Purpose Built’ category at the FIABCI World Prix d’ Excellence 2019, held in Moscow while later in the same year, it was awarded the Gold Award of Special Merit in the prestigious Association of Consulting Engineers Malaysia (ACEM) Engineering Awards 2019.
