Water Holding Structures

With its ability to resist extreme hydrostatic pressure, Xypex has been used extensively to waterproof reservoirs for potable water, filtration plants, swimming pools, and aquariums.

Project Listing
  • Well Pit Ukraine

    Kyiv Region, Ukraine

The well pit serves as a key structural element for accessing and maintaining the water well. During use, uncontrolled water ingress into the caisson posed a serious operational challenge.
  • Bai Xi Reservoir Spillway Rehabilitation

    Ningbo, Zhejiang Province, China

The Bai Xi Reservoir spillway had experienced progressive surface deterioration, cracking, and water infiltration due to long-term exposure to flowing water, weathering, and operational stress. Visible cracking—ranging from fine surface cracks to wider structural cracks exceeding 0.2 mm, raised concerns regarding durability, watertightness, and long-term serviceability of the spillway structure.
  • Potable Water Reservoir

    Kaunas, Lithuania

A drinking water tank with an area of approximately 2,000 m2 was successfully waterproofed using XYPEX Concentrate crystalline waterproofing. The goal of this project was to provide long-term protection of the concrete structure against water infiltration, ensuring the tank remained completely safe for contact with drinking water.

  • Daejeon Expo Aquarium

    Daejeon City, Korea

The Daejeon Expo Aquarium, located on the first basement floor of the Daejeon Science Complex in Daejeon City, Korea, spans 6,623 square meters and has quickly become a prominent attraction. This new construction features a unique two-floor design, including a 94-meter-long submerged tunnel offering panoramic views of marine life.
  • Ikaalisten Vesitorni Water Tower Rehabilitation

    Ikaalinen, Finland

The rehabilitation and waterproofing project for the Ikaalisten Vesitorni Water Tower in Finland required materials certified for potable water. Its shape also presented unique challenges making it difficult to install scaffolding and access both the inner and outer basins, so traditional waterproofing methods were not suitable applications.
  • Drahonice Reservoir

    Drahonice, Czech Republic

The objective of the Drahonice Reservoir project was to effectively seal construction joints within a newly constructed concrete water reservoir. Completed in 1994 in Drahonice, Czech Republic, the project encompassed two reservoirs, each with a capacity of 5000 m3. The project used Xypex Concentrate to address the sealing needs. Applying Xypex products effectively provided a comprehensive seal at construction joints, permanently preventing leaks.
  • ČS. Spořitelna Drinking Water Reservoir

    Prague, Czech Republic

The ČS. Spořitelna project in Prague, Czech Republic, aimed to refurbish a drinking water reservoir. Completed in 1995, the project involved a two-layer waterproofing system by applying Xypex Concentrate and Xypex Modified to the 60 m2 concrete surfaces of the tank. The project, led by SANACE and executed by ABV s.r.o. Praha 9, successfully sealed all joints and openings and eliminated all leaks.
  • Jing Hong Hydropower Dam

Lancang (Mekong) River in Yunnan Province, China

The Jing Hong Hydropower Dam, situated on the Lancang (Mekong) River in Yunnan Province, China, stands as a testament to engineering excellence. Constructed between 2004 and 2009, this roller-compacted dam reaches a towering height of 108 meters, boasting a storage capacity of 1.14 billion m3 of water and a generation capacity of 1.75 million kW.
  • Arbutus Attenuation Tank

    Victoria, British Columbia, Canada

For the concrete structures of the attenuation tank, 2,500 cubic meters of concrete was treated with Xypex Bio-San, including the walls and roof slab. In addition to the crystalline waterproofing contained in Xypex admix C-500, Xypex Admix Bio-San also contains bio-active mineral solids that become permanently fixed within the concrete matrix, impairing bio-film formation, thus inhibiting the growth of acid-causing sewer bacteria such as Thiobacillus. The antimicrobial initiates a two-stage kill mechanism that stops the Thiobacillus bacteria from developing, thereby preventing the formation of sulfuric acid.
  • Qingdao Olympic Sailing Center

    Qingdao, Shandong Province, China

Qingdao Olympic Sailing Center located on Macau Road, Shinan District, was the sailing-competition venue for the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games. Initially, Xypex Concentrate was used to waterproof just the fire pool in the media center but its successful application resulted in Xypex being subsequently used to waterproof 20 pools, 2 elevator shafts, and 2 platforms. Xypex Concentrate was also used to waterproof the Four Seasons Hall in Qingdao Olympic Village.
