Tunnel Projects

Xypex products play a key role in the waterproofing of concrete against water leakage, even against extreme hydrostatic pressure. The unique Xypex technology also protects concrete against cracks, cold joints, construction joints & issues relating to poor consolidation.

Project Listing
  • Tunnel 45

    Alexandria, Egypt

Located next to the Mediterranean, the tunnel faced several challenges due to chemicals in the water and extreme hydrostatic pressure. Tunnel 45 was constructed using Xypex Admix C-1000 NF, which was added to the concrete mix at the time of batching, speeding up the construction schedule.
  • The Čebrať Tunnel

    Ružomberok, Slovakia

The Čebrať Tunnel is an important part of Slovakia’s D1 motorway, the main transport route connecting the eastern and western regions of the country. Located near the town of Ružomberok, the tunnel stretches 2,026 meters.
  • Raba Pedestrian Tunnel

    Pärnu, Estonia

The construction of the new Raba pedestrian tunnel was a vital infrastructure project designed to connect Ehitajate tee and Rääma streets in Estonia’s prominent spa town, Pärnu. The project faced significant hydrogeological challenges due to its immediate proximity to the Pärnu River, where the water table is consistently high.
  • Pereira-Manizales Highway Tunnel

    Pereira, Colombia

The Pereira-Manizales Highway Tunnel was constructed as part of a road complex near Pereira, Colombia, connecting the municipalities of Dosquebradas and Santa Rosa de Cabal.
  • Sumapaz Road Tunnel

    Bogotá, Colombia

The Sumapaz Tunnel, part of the busy Bogotá to Girardot route in Colombia, is a crucial transportation corridor that facilitates both tourism and cargo movement. However, the tunnel faced significant water ingress issues due to the surrounding topography, leading to serious structural concerns.
  • Mount Royal Tunnel Upgrade

    Montreal, Canada

The Mount Royal Tunnel upgrade in Montreal, QC, Canada, required an around-the-clock, seamless operation to address water leaks and patch cavities.
  • Cairo Metro Line 3 Phase 3 & 4

    Cairo, Egypt

In the Cairo Metro Underground project, specifically for Line 3, Phase 4, Vinci served as both contractor and consultant, facing considerable challenges, particularly with the initial waterproofing material. To address these issues, the project team opted for Xypex Concentrate, a move that significantly improved the waterproofing of stations and water tanks within the project. A total of 12 tons of Xypex Concentrate was utilized, demonstrating its effectiveness in a demanding environment.
  • WestConnex M4E Tunnel

    Sydney, New South Wales, Australia

The WestConnex M4E roadway tunnel project in New South Wales, Australia, aimed to develop a watertight tunnel system. Numerous options for waterproofing were evaluated, with efficacy, cost, and impact on the construction schedule being the primary deciding factors.
  • West Gate Tunnel

    Melbourne, Australia

Engineers were concerned about potential adverse effects of carbonation from vehicle emissions on the concrete infrastructure for the West Gate Tunnel project. The general contractor conducted tests on concrete treated with Xypex Admix C-500 and found that the Xypex-treated concrete reported a carbonation effect depth of 0 mm. As a result it was decided to add Xypex Admix C-500 in the concrete for the exhaust ducts to permanently waterproof, enhance durability, and provide resistance to carbonation throughout the concrete's lifespan.
  • Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) Phase III & Phase IV

    Delhi, India

Due to the success of the Xypex surface-applied and repair system in various projects, the Delhi Metro engineering team consulted Xypex to provide a waterproofing solution for phase III. The engineering team specified Xypex Admix C-2000 NF and Xypex Concentrate for the waterproofing of phase III underground stations in conjunction with spray applied membranes on the rooftop slab.
