    Kimberley Wastewater Treatment Plant

    The concrete scope included headworks and influent structures along with four large aerobic granular sludge process tanks. Tank walls were approximately 500 mm thick, with base slabs reaching approximately 550 mm.

    The original design included a specification for Xypex surface-applied waterproofing products, while the concrete admixture portion remained open to approved alternatives. After PCL Construction was awarded the project and Salvador Ready Mix was selected as the concrete supplier, Xypex worked with both teams to review the waterproofing requirements and incorporate Xypex Admix C-500 NF into the concrete system. Further, technical review identified area with higher potential for microbial induced corrosion (MIC). Five process structures were reviewed, including two enclosed structures and three open air structures.

    Xypex Bio-San was selected for higher risk headspace areas, while Xypex Admix C 500 NF was retained in lower risk areas. This targeted approach allowed Bio-San to be used in areas identified for higher MIC exposure without extending its use throughout the entire project. Xypex also provided onsite technical review, application training, and detailing support for joints, cracks, tie holes, and penetrations.
