Water Treatment Plants
New Drinking Water Production Plant – Well P8
Saint-Lin-Laurentides, Canada
» Download
The project included reinforced concrete structures associated with municipal water treatment and distribution operations. Construction was carried out under winter conditions and within defined budget constraints. The project required a waterproofing solution that could be integrated directly into the concrete while avoiding the complexity and labour associated with conventional surface applied membrane systems. Long term durability and protection against water egress were critical requirements for the water treatment facility.
To address these conditions, Xypex Admix C-500 NF crystalline waterproofing admixture was specified for the concrete used in the treatment plant structures. Added during batching, the crystalline admixture reacts with moisture and cement hydration by products within the concrete to form insoluble crystals that block capillary pores and microcracks, reducing permeability throughout the concrete matrix. Using Xypex Admix C-500 NF eliminated the need for external membrane systems, reduced on site labour requirements, and simplified construction during winter conditions. The integral waterproofing approach provides long-term durability and low maintenance performance for the drinking water treatment infrastructure serving the City of Saint-Lin-Laurentides.
