Alem International Building

Addis Abeba The base foundation slab and the joints at the wall / slab interface were waterproofed with Xypex Concentrate. Xypex was also applied to the walls.

Bahr Dar Air Force Camp

Bahr Dar A two-coat application of Xypex Concentrate and Modified was used to repair and waterproof the interior surface of the swimming pool, water reservoirs, and six chamber septic tanks. Patch'n Plug was used to repair the poor quality concrete that was full of voids and honeycombing. A total of 3,940 kg of Xypex Concentrate, 2,350 kg of Xypex Modified and 1,330 kg of Xypex Patch'n Plug was utilized.

Federal Police Headquarters

Addis Abeba The dome roof, balconies, and roof gutters were treated with a two-coat application of Xypex Concentrate and Modified. Cracks and construction joints were routed outs, coated with a slurry of Concentrate and packed with Xypex Patch'n Plug. All surfaces were scabbled by hand to provide a rough texture to promote the proper bond of the Xypex coatings.

Mekwor Plaza

Addis Abeba Xypex was specified for extensive use on this office and apartment building. Xypex Concentrate and Modified were used to waterproof slabs, terraces, balconies, roofs, basement walls, flower planters and water fountains. Xypex Dry-Pac was used to waterproof expansion joints in conjunction with a suitable flexible sealant.

National Bank of Ethiopia

Bahr Dar A two-coat application of Xypex Concentrate and Modified was used on the interior of the basement, the underground vault walls and floors and to the two-level parking structure. The roof slab of the above ground parking structure was also waterproofed with Xypex. The Xypex treatment remedied the severe leakage that existed prior to the application.

Private Boutique Hotel

One of Ethiopia’s new hotels, this privately-owned Boutique Hotel has a footprint area of 500 m², an underground level, and ten above grade floors. The hotel began construction in January 2015; however, it was initially being built without sufficient technical supervision of the concrete placement causing concrete defects such as honeycombs in numerous locations. These defects, especially in the basement and on slabs, resulted in extensive water leakage. 

To mitigate these issues, 2,200 kg of Xypex Concentrate, 1,700 kg of Xypex Modified, and 2,500 kg of Xypex Patch’n Plug were used. These products were applied to various concrete structures of the hotel, and, following extensive concrete repair works, all structures were completely rendered waterproof by the end of construction. The Xypex product applications were undertaken over a three-year period, in tandem with the “Master Schedule” of the overall project, and were completed in January 2018. 

The basement walls and floors, the roof, terraces, elevator pits, and concrete gutters were all waterproofed with a two-coat system of Xypex Concentrate followed by Xypex Modified. Xypex Patch'n Plug was used for concrete repair work in previously built structures and effectively sealed cracks to stop leaking within seconds. 

Private Residence – Addis Abeba

Addis Abeba Xypex Concentrate was applied to the floors and base-board areas of the large bathrooms in this 3-storey luxury home. A two-coat application of Xypex Concentrate and Modified was used to waterproof the balcony. All joints were routed out and treated with Xypex Concentrate and Patch'n Plug.

Tanzania Embassy

Addis Abeba The new Tanzanian Embassy in Addis Ababa was considered a very high profile project and stringent guidelines were imposed for the specification of all products. Xypex was selected as the preferred waterproofing technology and Xypex Concentrate was applied to the entire basement and balconies.
